3. CONFERENCE DINNER

We will be going DIY style and bringing catering into a space on campus here at RMIT. Our hope is that by keeping the price down as much as possible we will get everyone together for this event and we can just settle in for a long night of catching up after such a long time apart. We would really like to encourage everyone to come along. If there's something preventing you from taking part, let us know and we'll see if there's anything we can do to help.

The portal to pay for the dinner is here:

https://iaspmanz.squarespace.com/conference-2022-store/conference-dinner-attendance

Info about scheduling and other events will be forthcoming soon.

4. EVENTS & RECOMMENDATIONS

TUESDAY: Pre-conference drinks at The Curtin Hotel (see map below for location). From 6pm. The Curtin does food. A small bar tab for delegates will be available.

WEDNESDAY: On Wednesday night, follow the conference organisers down the road to The Last Chance Rock n Roll Bar for drinks and a gig. Entry is free, but you need to buy your own food and drinks (after our drinks tab runs out). A Facebook event for the show can be found here. Have a listen to both bands here.

THURSDAY: The Conference Dinner.

FRIDAY: Tami Gadir (Tami Sounds) from the RMIT Music Industry program will be DJing Revolver. She’s on at midnight to 2AM, which is technically Saturday, I guess. Also, if you’d like to be on the guest list (free entry), please see Tami before 6pm Friday.

———

COFFEE: Two excellent coffee shops are across the road from the conference venue. Little Bang on the ground floor is great (especially, if you prefer oat milk), but Standing Room located up the escalators is also great (especially if you prefer filter). Standing Room has better snacks and a better view.

5. LOCATION

The conference will be predominantly housed in RMIT City Campus, Building 80 on Swanston Street.

6. ADVICE TO SPEAKERS

Advice to session chairs and speakers

Acknowledgement of Country

Chairs of the first sessions of each day are asked to commence the day by reading the provided Acknowledgement of Country statement, acknowledging the Indigenous elders on whose lands we meet: We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we meet, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations, the sovereignty of which has never been ceded. We respectfully recognise Elders past and present, and pay our respects also to all Indigenous persons from all parts of the world who may participate in the conference.

Technology and Keeping Things Running Smoothly

It is strong recommended that you run your presentation slides off a web browser or a USB stick rather than plug in your laptop computer. Our tech support for the conference is limited and Building 80 has experienced intermittent hiccups with displays and sound. For the sake of the smooth running of the conference, please run your presentation off the podium computer via the before-mentioned methods.

Session Times

For the smooth running of the Conference, it is imperative that sessions and individual paper presentations operate to the allocated times.

Chairs: please ensure the smooth running of sessions by

·      Commencing on time

·      Keeping speakers to their allocated time (20 mins) and appropriately informing speakers of remaining time (5 mins, 1min)

·      Moderating questions/discussion to the allocated time (generally 10 mins)

Speakers: please assist by adhering to your allocated speaking and discussion time. In general, speakers will deliver a 20 minute presentation, followed by 10 minutes of questions/discussion. If you wish to deviate from this plan, presenting a shorter formal paper to allow more time for discussion, please discuss this with your session chair prior to your presentation.

8. COVID Information

Please note that COVID-19 infections and hospitalisations have once again been on the rise across Australia, including Naarm (Melbourne). There is no current requirement by the State Government or the University for participants to be vaccinated, masked or undertake social distancing. However, we strongly recommend the wearing of masks and the use of good hand sanitation to reduce the risk of transmission. Masks and sanitiser will be provided at the venue. Should you test positive during or soon after the conference, please contact one of the organisers.
